The widespread adoption of autonomous vehicles (AVs) faces significant challenges, primarily due to public trust issues and the need for seamless integration with existing infrastructure. With 94% of motor vehicle accidents caused by driver error and 35% of fatal accidents due to impaired driving, there's a critical need for a solution that addresses safety concerns while building public confidence in AV technology.
Our research revealed key insights that shaped our design approach:
- Driver errors, including intoxication and distraction, are the primary causes of accidents.
- Vehicle-to-Everything (V2X) communication is crucial for enhancing road safety and traffic efficiency.
- There's a need to redefine driving modes to accommodate the transition from manual to fully autonomous driving.
- Public adoption of AVs hinges on trust, which can be built through transparent and intuitive user interfaces.
